The Caring sort..... via Eschaton NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them." ... In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to wants to move to Houston." Then she added: "What I’m hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed with the hospitality. "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (she chuckled)--this is working very well for them."

Hey Simon
here's another gem from the American Right...

News Announcer: Senator Rick Santorum is criticizing the government's emergency response to hurricane victims hurricane katrina victims. But he's also criticizing the ones who chose to ride out the storm.

Senator Santorum: I mean, you have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving.

Hard to believe I know, but that's not the full nastiness of the quote; she actually said:

'What I’m hearing, WHICH IS SORT OF SCARY, is they all want to stay in Texas...'

Yes, god forbid some poor black people come to live in your home state, Babs, you cold bitch.

Tom Delay was at the Houston Astrodome telling kids there that it was like summer camp and must be kind of 'fun'. Yes, I'm sure it *is* fun losing everything you own and living in a sports stadium with thousands of other displaced evacuees. Motherfucker.

But watch the Bush admin go into overdrive to spin this whole horrible fiasco and come out smelling like roses. Unbelievable.
